about

Partitae Mundi bonds two musicians of classical formation inspired by the same artistic intuition. The duo composed of Vincent Bélanger, violoncellist, and André Pelletier, pianist, was created in 2006 in Kamouraska, Québec, where they both live.

The shared musical insight has rapidly grown into remarkable complicity in the interpretation of several works of classical composers. Perceiving the potential such a union may bring to the realm of classical music, the duo wanted to materialize this impulse, rooted in authenticity, in a first eponymous recording.
In the manner of a recital, this generous album draws various pieces chosen amongst the whole musical history, without discrimination other than beauty and intensity. It contains, to name a few, interpretations of Bach, Fauré, Rachmaninoff, Beethoven and Piazzolla, expressing a full range of emotions, going from candidness to virtuosity. It also presents a creation of pianist André Pelletier as well as a piece of composer André Gagnon; that makes up the album’s “local flavor”, otherwise infused with multitudinous epochs and countries.

Thus the name “Partitae Mundi”, meaning in Latin “music pieces of the world”, not only for the reference to the cultural wealth of the world, but also - because in French “the world” also refers to “the people” - for the inclusion of all existences, individual and collective, inside the score itself: the union of the listener, the player and the composer on the same level, human.
